The western region SCECO was established by royal decree in 1981 (1401 AH), with a capital of SR 8 billion. The company comprised the 12 electric companies operating in the area, as well as Government projects in the area.
The concession area for the company is approximately 320,000 square kilometers.
By 1995/96 (1416 H), the SCECO in the western region had a market capitalization of US$ 1,593 million, was providing electricity supply to 495 cities, villages and settlements and had a customer base of 1,130,983.
In 2006, the customer base had increased to 1,919,760, with total energy consumption of 47,619,855 MW hours.
