The southern region SCECO was established by royal decree in 1979 (1399 AH), with a capital of SR 4 billion. The company comprised the 21 electric companies operating in the area, as well as Government projects in the areas of Asir, Baha, Najran and Jizan.
The concession area for the company is approximately 270,000 square kilometers.
By 1995/96 (1416 H), the SCECO in the southern region had a market capitalization of US$ 812 million, was providing electricity supply to 3,906 cities, villages and settlements and had a customer base of 355,176.
In 2006, the customer base had increased to 630,590, with total energy consumption of 12,338,786 MW hours.
