The central region SCECO was established by royal decree in 1979 (1399 AH), with a capital of SR 8 billion. The company comprised the 36 electric companies operating in the area, as well as Government projects in the areas of Riyadh and al Qasim.
The concession area for the company is approximately 470,000 square kilometers.
By 1995/96 (1416 H), the SCECO in the central region had a market capitalization of US$ 1,901 million, was providing electricity supply to 1,475 cities, villages and settlements and had a customer base of 911,532.
In 2006, the customer base had increased to 1,560,735, with total energy consumption of 48,503,374 MW hours.
