- SAMA was established in 1952, started operations in Jiddah where it remained until it moved its headquarters to Riyadh in 1978.
Functions:
- SAMA issues currency, acts as a banker to the Government, manages public debt, conducts monetary policy for promoting domestic price and exchange rate stability, manages the country's foreign exchange reserves and supervises the banking system. SAMA is also involved in the management of the Kingdom's financial markets, including the stock market.
