The Israeli airstrikes on Gaza, in which two militants have been assassinated, have involved the killing of a total of 20 Palestininans since Friday. The Arab League has described Israel's battacks as a "massacre". Israel has justified its action by referring to the almost entirely ineffectual rocket attacks on Israel fired from Gaza. "US State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said Washington condemned "in the strongest terms" the rocket fire from Gaza, saying the attacks had "dramatically and dangerously escalated"."
