13th November 2010 - Makkah light railway starts to operate

The 18-km light railway, built to link Makkah with the holy sites of Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifah, opened on Saturday morning, initially serving nine stations. It is the first dual-track light railway in Saudi Arabia, and is designed to facilitate pilgrim traffic during the Hajj.
