In a brief statement carried by the official SPA news agency it was announced that: "The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques "is suffering from back problems which doctors have diagnosed as a herniated disc". The SPA report, quoting the Royal Court, explained: "Doctors recommended that the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud will rest for some time due to a disc disposition. In line with the principle of transparency pursued by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud between him and his sons and daughters of the people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Royal Court would like to make clear that the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques is feeling disposition in the back following a herniated disc. Accordingly, doctors advised him to rest for some time."
