President Barack Obama has blamed an Al Qaeda-affiliated group in Yemen for the failed plot to blow up an American airliner as it approached Detroit airport. He said: "We know that [the arrested suspect] travelled to Yemen, a country grappling with crushing poverty and deadly insurgencies". It seems that, while there, the suspect joined an Al qaeda group, from which he received training, explosives and instructions to carry out a terrorist mission.
