6th December 2009 - Yemen teeters on brink of failure (LAT)

There is growing concern in the United States that Yemen risks becoming a failed state as it faces poverty, a Shiite insurgency and the macchinations of Al Qaeda within its borders. There is fear the deteriorating situation in Yemen could contribute to the destabilisation of the Arabian Gulf and draw America into a conflict involving "the lawless horn of Africa".
