In criticising America's apparent eagerness to achieve "energy independence", Prince Turki al-Faisal, former Saudi ambassador to the United States, has said recently that for American politicians, invoking energy independence is now as essential as baby-kissing, and accuses them of demagoguery. He makes the point that there is no way America will be able to wean itself away from oil for the foreseeable future and urges American politicians to think in terms of energy interdependence.
