20th August 2009 - CIA Hired Firm for Assassin Program (WP)

In 2004, as part of covert operations, the CIA hired a private security firm, Blackwater USA, to carry out assassinations of Al Qaeda leaders. On the orders of the then Vice President Dick Cheney, Congress was not informed of the arrangement. The scheme was not a success and never became operational.
