3rd August 2009 - First Saudi women work as maids (BBC)


According to a Saudi newspaper, thirty Saudi women, aged 20 to 45, have begun work as housemaids in the Red Sea city of Jeddah. The move which is operating under a government scheme is controversial because such work is seen by many as demeaning, but poor women, such as widows with little income, argue there is a need for honest work.
