19th July 2009 - Hamid Karzai says bring Taliban to table (TT)

Hamid Karzai, the Afhan President, has urged the West to recognise that a long-term solution to Afghansitan's problems lies not with military action but with negotiations with the Taleban. Karzai suggested that even the Taleban leader Mullah Omar should be invited to the negotiating table. Saudi Arabia has lready facilitated tentative talks between the Afghan Government and the Taleban.
