29th May 2009 - Can Obama deliver on the Middle East?


The BBC notes that, with the election of President Obama, it is just possible the grip of the pro-Israeli lobby on the American body politic might be loosened enough for there to be a real chance of negotiating a Middle East peace. President Obama believes the problems of the Middle East are inter-connected and he is taking the advice of those with long experience of the complexities of the region. It is possible that the fact that Israel cannot rely on the President's unqualified and uncritical support whatever it does might for the first itime since Israel's formation make peace attainable.
