A deal involving mainly US companies in a 60 billion dollar deal to help the United Arab Emirates to build three civil nuclear reactors was signed by George Bush, five days before President Obama took office. The new US President has not yet given the deal his blessing but a $1.6m Washington lobbying campaign in favour of the deal is likely to produce a positive result, despite concerns about the possible proliferation of nuclear weapons in the Middle East region.
