Talks between US President Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu suggest a very different emphasis in the way each of them sees the needs of the Middle East region. While President Obama contniues to give his support to a two state solution to the Arab/Israeli conflict, Netanyahu places all the emphasis on containing Iran. Editorial Comment: The resilience of the pretence that Israel will ever willingly agree to a viable Palestinina states is quite extraordinary, and is possible only through the unwillingness of any American Adminstration so far to put the issue to the test. It would take massive American pressure and the threat of some withdrawal of funds and preferential treatment to persuade Israel even to consider the possibility of a two state solution.
