15th May 2009 - Swine flu fears could delay Hajj


Fear of the spread of swine flu is persuading some to consider that there may be a need to postpone this year's Hajj. Already more than 7,500 case have been reported worldwide and, although the World Health Organisation has not yet declared a pandemic, there is real concern that swine flu is spreading. Already the Mufti of the United Arab Emirates has urged Muslims to delay any pilgrimage to Makkah for the next two or three weeks and the Muslim religious authorities in Egypt have suggested delaying the Hajj because of the spread of the virus.
