11th March 2009 - Intelligence candidate Charles Freeman pulls out after objections -D Tel

The Daily Telegraph reports the forced resignation of Charles Freeman (former Ambassador to Saudi Arabia) from the post of chairman of the National Intelligence Council. "Mr Freeman was forced out after a campaign that started among pro-Israel activists in Washington and spread among Democratic and Republican congressmen on a range of issues including potential conflicts of interest." Unlike the Washington Post, the Daily Telegraph is actually able to tell the truth about the origin of the campaign against Mr Freeman.

The Daily Telegraph also noted the difficulty faced by President Obama in seeking a Middle East peace settlement while maintaining support for Israel. The Daily Telegraph may inadvertently have accepted the fact that support for Israel, especially America's uncritical and unconditional support for Israel, precludes a solution to the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.
