The WP reports that all the Republican members of the US Senate Intelligence Committee have raised concerns about President Barack Obama's appointment of Charles W. Freeman, Jr as Director of the National Intelligence Council. Mr Freeman was at one time US Ambassador to Saudi Arabia. It seems his offence is that he has occasionally voiced relatively mild criticisms of Israel and US unrelenting support for Israel. He is reported to have once said: "The brutal oppression of the Palestinians by the Israeli occupation shows no sign of ending..American identification with Israel has become total." Such views are sufficient to raise questions in some republican minds about Mr Freeman's objectivity.
