In moves to strengthen the moderate, reformist element in Saudi society, King Abdullah has dismissed two hard-line officials and appointed two moderates in their place. In addition, the King has appointed the first woman to a ministerial position. Some see these moves as a modest effort to maintain progress in the King's reform program; others suggest it is a turning point and will lead to much faster progress in reform.
