A BBC poll conducted by the BBC World Service and involving 24,000 respondents in 23 countries, suggests that America's "war on terrorism" has, at best, resulted in a stalemate. Only 22% thought American action over the last few years had weakened Al Qaeda. Some 60% of Egyptians declared their attitude to Al Qaeda was either mixed or positive. Only 19% of Pakistanis had a negative view of Al Qaeda.
