30th September 2008 - Karzai pleas for Saudi peace role (BBC)


Hamid Karzai, President of Afghanistan, has revealed that, over the last two years, he has issued repeated appeals to Saudi Arabia to assist in setting up negotiations with the Taleban, with a view to agreeing a ceasefire and embarking on peace talks. He had sent emissaries to the Kingdom and to Pakistan but, so far, no direct talks had taken place.
