In the latest of a series of moves intended to normalise relations between Iraq and neighbouring Arab countries, Kuwait's Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser al-Mohammad al-Sabah is to visit Iraq, on what is the first visit of a senior Iraqi representative since Saddam Hussein's invasion in 1990. Iraq still owes its neighbours and other countries substantial amounts of compensation for the first Gulf war but is hoping to negotiate a reduction of debt. The UAE recently waived its right to $7 billion compensation. As part of the normalisation process, Saudi Arabia has recently announced its intention to re-open an Embassy in Iraq but has not yet set a date.
