The USA is handing back to their home countries many of the militants it has detained in its "war on terror". The US military says it returns militants when it has assurances from the destination country that prisoners will be treated humanely and will not simply be released.
A number of detainees have been handed back to Saudi Arabia which has put in place a sophisticated rehabilitation programme. The US has responded favourably to this Saudi Arabian initiative but has reserved judgement on whether the rehabilitation programme will bring long term and sustained benefits.
