30th June 2008 - Oil breaks new ground above $143 (BBC)


The oil price continues to surge upwards, reaching $143 a barrel. Persistent concerns about supply and refining capacity are aggravated by the tension between Israel and Iran, with both heating up the rhetoric. Saudi Arabia's efforts to stabilise the market by increasing production are having little effect in the context of such political and economic problems.
