11th March 2008 - Saudi sheikh in wedding dance row

A prominent Saudi cleric, Sheikh al-Obaikan, noted for his relatively moderate views on such issues as women driving, has been criticised by stricter clerics for performing the traditional Saudi sword dance at his nephew's wedding. In his defence, the Sheihk has pointed out that there was nothing in the Prophet's life or teaching to suggest that joy, entertainement or dancing was sinful.
