6th December 2005 - Prince Naif Division For Islamic Studies At Moscow University


Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz co-signed here today, with the Principal of the University, Professor Victor Sadvinici and Director of the Institute of Asian and African Countries, an affiliate of the University, Professor Michael Mir, the protocol extending the activity of Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz Al Saud's division for Islamic studies at the University of Moscow.


The signing ceremony was attended by the Saudi Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Russia, Mohammed Hasan Abdulwali and a number of officials.


The Principal of the University welcomed Prince Saud on his second visit to Moscow, which takes place ten years after he established Prince Naif's Academic Chair at the University of Moscow. He said multi-national students have graduated from this chair.


On his part, Prince Saud said Prince Naif is very interested in the activity of the Islamic Studies division and is satisfied with the reports he receives on its activities.


Following the signing ceremony, Dr. Saed Alorabi Alharithi, Advisor to the Minister of Interior and member of the Board of Prince Naif Division for Islamic Studies, said 1,500 students have graduated from the division over the last ten years (since 1996) and that the chair supervised nearly 30 PhD and MA dissertations, while around 500 students were still having their lessons there.


He said the division has organized a number of social and scientific symposia, notably the activities marking the centennial anniversary of the establishment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Cultural Week in Russia in 2003 and the Arabic Language Olympiads in Moscow in 2004.
