16th March 2004 - Prince Khalid bin Faisal opens tourism symposium

Abha, Saudi Arabia, 16th March 2004

On behalf of Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, the Governor of Asir Region, Prince Faisal bin Khalid bin Abdul Aziz, the Deputy Governor of Asir Region and Chairman of the Tourism Promotion Committee, today opened a symposium entitled “Tourism and Globalisation,” organized by the Tourism Higher Authority (THA) in cooperation with the Abha-based Prince Sultan College for Tourism and Hotel Sciences.

Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, Secretary General of the THA, also attended the opening ceremony.

Addressing the gathering, Prince Saud bin Khalid, Chairman of the Council of Trustees of the College, said that the number of tourists internationally is predicted to grow from 697 million to one billion by the year 2010, bringing to 12% tourism’s contribution to the world’s total gross national product. He said that tourism is also expected to create over 150 million jobs worldwide by 2006.
