Germany’s Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder today announced Germany’s support for the accession of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
In a press conference at the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Schroeder said that Germany strongly supports the endeavour of Saudi Arabia to join the WTO. He noted that Saudi markets are among the most important markets for German businessmen, and cited excellent investment possibilities and a distinguished strategic location as privileges offered by Saudi markets. He stressed the importance of expanding and developing current joint ventures between Saudi and German businessmen.
Schroeder lauded the recent visit of Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, the Deputy Premier and Commander of the National Guard, to Germany, which he said has yielded very positive results for the two countries’ mutual interests.
He spoke on a number of issues of mutual concern, including the war against terrorism, the reconstruction of Iraq, the Palestinian-Israeli issue, and stability in the Middle East region.
Saudi Minister of Finance, Dr Ibrahim Al-Assaf; the Minister of Economy and Planning, Dr Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Qussaibi, and Chairman of the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Abdulrahman Al-Jiraisi, also attended the press conference.
Schroeder attended a luncheon held in his honour by the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
