The international conference on combating corruption began its deliberations on Monday.
The 3-day conference is organized by Naif Arab Academy for Security Sciences, in cooperation with the Vienna-based UN Anti-Drugs and Crime Office.
Addressing the inaugural session of the conference, Dr Abdul Aziz Al-Ghamidi, President of the Academy, hailed the Academy’s pioneering role in combating various forms of crime.
The Dean of the Centre of Studies and Academic Research at the Academy, Dr Ali Al-Juhani, said that the conference aims to define the concept of corruption, and its forms and the threats it poses. He noted that the conference will review the role of the Islamic Shariah in combating corruption, and the administrative and legislative obstacles that impede reform of official bodies.
On the fringes of the conference, the 14th Arab Book Exhibition, which is organized by the Academy, opened to display the publications of forty Arab and international publishing houses.
