The Iraqi Prime Minister has called on the international community to support his appeal for the cancellation of his country's debts. In particular, he wishes to see an end to the compensation payments levied on Iraq following Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait.. "About $66.5 billion of Iraq's $120.2 billion foreign debt has been forgiven, according to U.S. State Department estimates. More than half of the outstanding debt is owed to Gulf Arab states, mainly Saudi Arabia and Kuwait."
