In response to rising food and oil prices which have threatened emergency aid to the world's poorest people, Saudi Arabia has decided to contribute £250m to the World Food Programme. This contribution is easily the most generous response to the UN food agency's emergency appeal for £381m to cover its increased costs.
As a result of the Saudi contribution, the U.N.'s World food Programme will be able to carry on its activities without any reductions.
