The Rome-based World Food Program aimed to raise $755 million from countries in order to maintain its activities without cutting back. With the Saudi donation and the contribtion of 31 other countries, the total has reached $960 million, comfortably exceeding the target.
WFP executive director Josette Sheeran said: ''We turned to the world to help the hungry and the world has been generous''.
