The close U.S./Saudi relationship is under threat. The mainstay of the relationship, from the U.S. point of view, is the past willingness of the Kingdom to moderate the price of oil when it has surged by using its reserves to boost production. Riyadh's unwillingness on this occasion to comply with American requests is giving strength to the Kingdom's enemies in Congress.
