When President Bush had a meeting with King Abdullah in January, he asked Saudi Arabia to raise production in order to reduce the upward pressure on prices. King Abdullah responded that the kingdom would increase production only when the market justified it, and that production levels appeared normal.
On his one-day visit to the Kingdom now, President Bush is trying once again to persuade the Kingdom to increase production in order to drive down the steeply rising gasoline prices which are weighing heavily on U.S. consumers and which are depressing the American economy in general.
