An EU report suggests climate change will create conditions which could spark conflicts in a number of different areas. The melting of ice in the Artic could lead to bitter rivalries between Russia and the West over carbon resources in the region. "Falling harvests in Turkey, Iraq, Syria and Saudi Arabia are, the EU analysis warns, in danger of sparking conflicts, such as the fighting in Darfur." Perhaps the gravest danger will arise if demand for water exceeds supply.
