Anger at Syria over its role in Lebanon and continuing close ties with Iran is inclining several Arab leaders to threaten to boycott the forthcoming Arab Summit in Damascus. A Saudi government adviser said: "“There’s a new initiative to completely isolate Syria and weaken its destructive influence in Lebanon,” There is also said to be personal animosity between King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia and Bashar al-Assad, the Syrian President.
