21Sep2005 Saudi Anti-locust Aircraft Delivered To Senegal

Dakar, 21 September, 2005

A dedication ceremony for delivering a Saudi anti-locust aircraft was held last night at Dakar air base.

The Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia gifted the plane to the Republic of Senegal to help combat desert locust, in collaboration with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAW).

The ceremony was attended by Senegal's Chief of Air Staff, Col. Mohammed Mustafa Jawara, a representative of FAW and a representative of the Saudi Embassy in Dakar.

Addressing the gathering, the FAW representative reminded that last year the Kingdom had donated $1 million to Senegal to finance the campaign to combat desert locust in the West African country.

He said the aircraft cost 415 million African Francs and that part of the money would be used to train pilots and mechanics.

On his part, the Director of the office of the Minister of Agriculture and Water of Senegal thanked the Saudi government and people for the continuing support for Senegal's campaign against the spread of locusts.
