With ten billion Saudi Riyals appropriated by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Ministry of Transport last year and this year, the budget of the Ministry of Transport for this year is its biggest in the Ministry's history, the Minister of Transport, Dr. Jubarah bin Eid Alsuraisri said in Rafha, Saudi Arabia, where he is making an inspection visit.
He said the Kingdom will be linked by several roads. Even villages will enjoy being linked to each other and to their nearest towns, he said, adding that this will create the region's biggest road network.
Tens of intersections were implemented to connect villages with main roads, the Minister said.
He said this year's budget accredited more than 260 road projects.
He called on drivers of trucks and trailers not to overload their vehicles on express roads.
He disclosed that nine international bidders expressed interest to implement railway expansions in the Kingdom. The Ministry expected to finish their study by the first quarter of 2006, he said.
