Prince Saud Al-Faisal, the Foreign Minister stressed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has not possessed any nuclear facilities, reactors, fission or source materials, in accordance with guaranteed agreement, also affirming Saudi Arabia's keenness for continued cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency and its commitment to international treaties, particularly Nuclear Weapons Non-proliferation Treaty and its appendixes.
In his regular briefing here today, Prince Saud said that the Kingdom will participate in the International Conference on Iraq, due to be held in Brussels on 22nd June, hoping that the conference will contribute to supporting Iraq's stability, independence, territorial integrity and reconstruction.
On the health of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdulaziz, he said that the monarch's health has been satisfactory and he will be discharged from hospital soon.
Prince Saud described the visit of the U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to the Kingdom as important because of the United States' close relationship with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
As for Saudi detainees in Guantanamo, Iraq and Syria, he hoped that they will be extradited to the Kingdom to know the truth from the convicted and non-convicted culprits. Within this framework, we hope that the U.S. administration takes a rapid and decisive decision on this topic. With regard to Iraq, we are waiting to receive the lists. Regarding Syria, we have security cooperation with it.
He stressed that the Kingdom has no nuclear reactor, simultaneously ruling out other Gulf countries's search for possession of atomic reactors.
On the Kingdom's accession to the World Trade Organization, he pointed out that the efforts exerted have led us to an outcome, saying he is optimistic to join the Organization.
On Washington's decision to postpone the movement of its embassy to Jerusalem, he said that the embassy's movement is a recognition of Israeli fait accompli which is not wanted by anyone, consequently returning the U.S. policy to the previous position is welcomed.
In regard to the recent visit of Prince Khalid bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Assistant Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector General for Military Affairs to France, he noted that no project for purchasing aircraft has been announced.
Replying to a question on cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, Prince Saud said the Kingdom has signed all agreements with the agency. The agency admitted it has no problem with us and called for making the Middle East free of atomic weapons.
On the number of Saudis going to Iraq, he said, '' We do not know. It is known to the Iraqi authorities,'' adding that we will exert all efforts to prevent any Saudi from crossing the border. It is not right that any nationality interferes in Iraq's internal affairs, Prince Saud said and added that we have closed our border to prevent this.
Regarding the U.S. position on reforms in the Arab region, he said reform should emanate from the region which sets the speed and kind of these reforms. Other countries and the Kingdom recognize the needs for reforms and development and they can carry out what satisfy their citizens in this regard.
On the aim of the visit of Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Kuwait's Premier to the Kingdom, he said Kuwait has been keen during the GCC consultative meeting to unite positions and clear any misunderstandings among Gulf countries. And we wish them success.
