07May2005 Crown Prince Abdullah arrives in Syria

Damascus, 7 May 2005

Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, the Deputy Premier and Commander of the National Guard of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, arrived here today on a brief visit to Syria.

Crown Prince Abdullah was received at Damascus International Airport by Syria's President Dr. Bashar Al-Assad, ministers and senior officials.

The Crown Prince and the Syrian President held a meeting which was attended by the official delegation accompanying the Crown Prince.

On the Syrian side, the meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Farouk Al-Shara and Syria's Ambassador to the Kingdom Dr. Ahmed Nizamuddin.

Crown Prince Abdullah briefed President Al-Assad on the positive and fruitful outcomes achieved in the interests of Arab and Islamic nations during the Crown Prince's recently-concluded visits to the Republic of France and the United States of America.

They also discussed the overall developments at the Arab and Islamic arenas. Top of the agenda were the Palestinian cause, the occupied Arab territories and the situations in Iraq and Lebanon.

They also reviewed the developments at the international arena and the position of the two countries towards them in addition to aspects of cooperation between the two countries and ways of enhancing them in all fields.

The Crown Prince and the Syrian President held a bilateral closed meeting.

Later, Crown Prince Abdullah left for Jordan.

The Crown Prince accompanied by the official delegation was seen off by President Dr. Bashar Al-Assad, Foreign Minister Farouk Al-Shara, Syria's Ambassador to the Kingdom Dr. Ahmed Nizamuddin and Saudi Charge' D'affaires to Syria Saud Abdullah Katib.
