The Assistant Under Secretary of Health Ministry, Dr. Yaqub Al-Mazro'a has said the number of infant deaths in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia fell to 18 per thousand in 2003, compared with 57 per thousand in 1982.
In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency, on the eve of the International Health Day to be celebrated tomorrow throughout the Kingdom, Dr. Al-Mazro'a said that this achievement is due to the tremendous development witnessed by the Kingdom in the health sector.
He added that the Ministry of Health had established a network of medical centers providing pediatric and maternal care and had set up an effective system of health information including family health registers and cards for the children and pregnant mothers.
