14Dec2004 ALESCO endorses Saudi proposal for improving Arabic education

Tunis, 14th December 2004

The Executive Council of the Arab League’s Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ALESCO) yesterday approved the Saudi proposal on means of improving the standard of the Arabic language teaching at all educational stages in Arab countries.

The Executive Council urged ALESCO’s Director General to boost cooperation with the Arab Bureau for Education in Gulf States (ABECS) to formalize the project and estimate its cost. ALESCO’s Executive Council approved the allocation of $100,000 for implementation of primary stages of the project in cooperation with ABECS.

The Executive Council decided to submit the Saudi proposal and another Saudi proposal pertaining to the establishment of an Arab commission for educational evaluation to the 17th session of ALESCO’s general conference, due to take place on Friday in Tunisia.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was represented at the meetings by its permanent representative at ALESCO and member of its Executive Council Abdul Aziz Al-Babtain.
