09Oct2004 Prince Naif urges media to cooperate in fight against terrorism

Kuwait, 9th October 2004

Interior Minister Prince Naif bin Abdul Aziz said that acts of terrorism are abhorrent to all Muslim and Arab peoples. In a press statement following his arrival in Kuwait yesterday evening, as head of the Saudi delegation to the 23rd meeting of Interior Ministers of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, Prince Naif stated that those who commit terrorist acts abuse religion and harm Islamic and Arab nations.

The Minister said that terrorists do not represent Islam, but act against it and to its detriment, harming the good reputation of Muslims and Arabs worldwide. He urged the media to cooperate with security forces in the fight against terrorism, to convey the reality of Islam and the Arab world to the world.

On terrorism in the Kingdom, Prince Naif said that security forces have successfully eliminated terrorist cells and prevented attacks, but there remains work to be done against elements of the network in Saudi Arabia.

On participants at the anti-terrorism conference to be held in the Kingdom, Prince Naif said that senior members of international governments will be invited, and the Kingdom hopes that many heads of state will attend.

On whether GCC countries are targeted by terrorist groups, Prince Naif said that unfortunately this is the case.

On the attacks in Taba, Egypt, Prince Naif called for implementation of the resolutions resulting from the meeting of Arab Interior Ministers in Tunisia and GCC Interior Ministers to prevent further attacks.
