11Aug2004 Sudanese President receives Saudi relief delegation

Khartoum, 11th August 2004

Sudanese President Omar Hassan Al-Basheer today received the Saudi Relief delegation to Sudan, led by Chairman of the Saudi Red Crescent Society Dr Abdulrahman bin Abdul Aziz Al-Suwailem.

At the outset of the meeting, Al-Suwailem conveyed the greetings of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz to Al-Basheer. The President sent his greetings and appreciation to King Fahd for his support extended to the people of Sudan.

Al-Basheer lauded Saudi political and relief assistance of Sudan, noting the strenuous efforts exerted by the Saudi Red Crescent to provide relief aid to needy Muslims worldwide.

The President lauded the firm relations binding the Kingdom and Sudan, describing them as “excellent and distinguished.” He said that Saudi Arabia and Sudan share stances on regional and international issues, adding that the Kingdom plays a leading and pioneering role in providing relief to Muslims and needy people all over the world.

Al-Basheer said that the Saudi Red Crescent was requested by the concerned Sudanese authorities to focus on relief work and health services in residential areas where displaced people are expected to return. The Saudi Red Crescent Society pledged to build a number of medical centres and schools in these areas.
