The Saudi Public Transport Company (SAPTCO) signed a SR14 million contract for the provision of transport facilities to 9000 Saudi girls studying at King Saud University (KSU).
“One hundred mini-buses will be deployed on the streets of Riyadh to transport university students from their homes to colleges,” SAPTCO Spokesman told the Jeddah-based Arab News. He said that the new campus service will be introduced from the beginning of the forthcoming academic year, in September.
The spokesman said that female students will be collected from their homes and dropped at KSU colleges in Oleisha, Malaz and the KSU campus. They will be transported home at scheduled times following their classes. Brand new, luxury mini-buses will be deployed and drivers will be selected carefully so that they offer a good service to passengers. All windscreens of the vehicles are tinted to ensure the privacy of female passengers.
