22May2004 Foreign Minister speaks on Tunis Arab Summit

Tunis, 22nd May 2004

Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal said that the Arab Summit, which is to commence in Tunis later today, has been convened at critical time for the Arab world. In a statement to reporters last night, Prince Saud expressed his optimism regarding what has already been achieved, which will facilitate the Summit’s works.

Prince Saud said that he regretted the media’s exaggeration of differences and difficulties attributed to convention of the Summit on the date previously designated, and said: “I have just discussed this media mishandling during a meeting with Tunisian President Zain el-Abideen bin Ali, who agreed that these difficulties and differences were caused more by the media than the Summit itself.”

On the initiative of Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz for an Arab-Israeli peace settlement, Prince Saud said that the initiative is “valid and alive, and has received wide international support, indicated by the adoption of the Road Map plan.”
