The Minister of Culture and Information Dr Fouad bin Abdulsalam Al-Farsy tonight opened the 2nd conference of General Managers and 6th Conference of Editors-In-Chief of press establishments of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, hosted by the Jeddah-based Okaz Establishment for Press and Publishing.
In a key address at the opening session, Dr Hashim Abdou Hashim, Editor-In-Chief of Okaz newspaper, said that challenges facing the region oblige GCC media organisations to remain vigilant while performing their national duties. He said that the meeting would discuss the means of tackling some of the difficulties faced by GCC media.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Al-Farsy commenced by conveying to attendees the greetings of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz, Crown Prince Abdullah and the Second Deputy Premier, who wished the meeting every success.
Dr Al-Farsy said that the GCC media is making slow but promising progress. He urged journalists of the Gulf region to show greater interest in development affairs, in addition to Arab and Islamic affairs. He urged wisdom, moderation and cooperation in dealing with foreign media.
