The International Energy Forum Secretariat (IEFS) on Monday oversaw the first Euro-Gulf Energy Workshop for dialogue on energy stability and means of developing Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)-European cooperation in oil and gas sectors.
In an address at the opening ceremony of the workshop, Prince Abdul Aziz bin Salman, Deputy Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources for Oil Affairs, stressed the Kingdom’s support of dialogue between the two sides to promote stability and maintenance of energy resources. He said that the workshop accords with goals of the International Economics and Finance Society (IEFS) in determining points of agreement between the energy producers and consumers.
Prince Abdul Aziz stressed the keenness of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to achieve greater accomplishments in this regard, noting the good work of the ministerial committee at the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources which facilitates the activities of the IEFS.
Prince Abdul Aziz said that a number of papers would be presented at the workshop, covering five principal aspects of the current and future energy situation from a GCC-European perspective.
Ambassador Arne Walther, who is Secretary General of IEFS, stressed the importance of such dialogue.
The two-day workshop will be chaired by Professor Luciani, Co-Director of the Mediterranean Programme at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies.
The 2nd Euro-Gulf Energy Workshop will be held in Italy later this year, followed by the final conference in Riyadh in 2005.
