The Saudi-British Bank (SABB) and Sejel Technology Co. Ltd. signed an agreement to handle worldwide payments of Umrah (minor pilgrimage) visa fees electronically.
Sejel Technology operates the Umrah Network and Information Centre under license from the Ministry of Hajj.
Geoff Calvert, Managing Director of SABB, said that the Hajj Ministry had nearly completed the reorganization of Umrah procedures, including the use of e-government technology to improve the process of procuring Umrah visas.
The arrangement between Sejel and SABB will enable pilgrims to apply and pay for their Umrah arrangements electronically via authorized agents abroad.
SABB has used its technological expertise to develop a customized solution for Umrah visa payments, which will be implemented electronically and through the 75 branches of SABB in Saudi Arabia and the HSBC Group’s global network of over 9,500 offices in 79 countries, according to a report by the Jeddah-based Arab News.
